The ICP Guide

There have been some exciting developments on Internet Computer tokens this week:

  1. hzld is the first experimental token on the Internet Computer
  2. Wrapped trillion cycles (WTC) is the first stable coin on the Internet Computer
  3. Stoic Wallet is the first functional ICP wallet other than the NNS
  4. Toniq Labs (the team behind stoic wallet) have released a preliminary version of their Extendable Token Standard (EXT)

Note that the majority of these services/applications are in alpha or beta, so please do not transfer large amounts of any token through these yet. There are many opportunities to lose token by playing around with these right now, so tread carefully.

These token developments are important because they lay the foundation for real interoperable tokens on the Internet Computer.

Once we have an accepted token standard on the Internet Computer (what Toniq Labs is trying to do with their EXT), every application on the Internet Computer could release their own token.

At that point, it will be interesting to see which tokenomic models work the best.

We have a few historical examples of successful token models (MakerDao, Compound), both of which are governance tokens. ICP is also a governance token, and while only a few weeks since launch, has already been successful in orchestrating the governance of the Internet Computer through the NNS.

Once we have a widely accepted Internet Computer token standard, I'll let you all know and we can create some amazing Internet Computer tokens!

Our goal is to help millions of people around the world learn more about the Internet Computer, and we can't do that without the help of community members just like you.
